February 24, 2020 – Academic Cataloging Group Notes

ATTENDING: Amy (NDSCS), Aubrey (NMY), Ben (NDV), Drew (UND), Jasmine (NDJ), Jason (ODIN), Jenny (NDSU), Jessica (UNF), Julia (NMI), Laurie (UNE), Linda (ODIN), Liz (NBJ), Megan (ODIN), Phyllis Bratton (NDJ), Phyllis (TBI), Shari (UNW), Shelby (UND), Staci (NDI), Lynn (ODIN)

Data Cleanup:

  • Questions? Problems? Updates? –
    • Bibs with no ADM records were cleaned up per instructions from Ex Libris. Megan verified P2E documents and made needed adjustments.
    • How is ALMA data checking going?
      • Frustrating since the data reload was needed.
      • Spreadsheet are not terribly useful in that they are too generic and not customized for ODIN Libraries. Will not work as an acceptance document but libraries encouraged to define their own check points. Ex Libris testing link might be better supplemented with the power point. Shelby will post to Basecamp requesting using the change in their preference.
      • Not everything is activated as expected – as in booking (Shelby reported and has had discussions with Ellen).
    • Primo VE links sent out February 18th. Discovery Group meetings should be starting up soon.
      • Each library should be thinking about having at least one person representing them when these meetings start in March.
    • Problems need to be reported in Basecamp to be evaluated --- sooner rather than later.
      • If you run into issues, post to Basecamp rather than wait for when the verification forms are done. This will give Ex Libris a chance to investigate and resolve problems ASAP. It also provides an opportunity for other libraries to check their data for the same problem.
    • Several people have completed ALMA and Primo VE Certification – congratulations!
      • Shelby commented it was about 46 hours of videos --- if you only watched them once.
  • Discussion needed on Orbis Cascade model for NZ -- Libraries should be looking for policies and procedures on how things might work for the Network Zone options.
    • When does record change from what is being worked on in OCLC? If record is replaced in OCLC, it should replace the NZ record.
      • Shelby suggested another discussion with her contact at Orbis Cascade.
    • Generally, people felt they wanted to stay cataloging in OCLC and bring into ALMA. What procedure does NDSU use? The same --- OCLC and bring to ALMA.
      • NDSU already has import profiles set up. Ex Libris Training Session on Import Profiles is on Wednesday, March 18th with follow-up discussion on Tuesday, March 24th.
      • Shelby was able to set up connection to OCLC and bring in a record.
    • Do titles in the CZ that are part of a package belong in NZ? Once activated they will be in the IZ. This will be another area to test thoroughly in the TEST environment.
      • Online resources purchased by state contract have been problematic.
      • Shelby has been working with Ellen on some of these issues.
  • Resource sharing models – respond to the survey
    • Jason has received approximately half of the libraries responding.
