Election for User Group Chairs

Elections for all User Group Chairs

User Group Chair elections are held in December.  According to the governance document (found at https://www.odin.nodak.edu/about/governance ):

ACADEMICS:
An academic User Group Chair is elected in December by an online ballot (majority vote among User Group listserv members voting) or consensus within User Group.  The term of a User Group Chair is two years beginning in January.   If a Chair is unable to complete their term, a new chair is elected at a User Group meeting.

PUBLIC/K12/SPECIALS:
A public/K12/special User Group Chair is elected in December by an online ballot (majority vote among User Group listserv members voting) or consensus within User Group.  The term of a User Group Chair is two years beginning in January.   If a Chair is unable to complete their term, a new chair is elected at a User Group meeting.

You may be thinking “well… what does the User Group Chair do?”   Glad you asked!  Again, according to the governance document:
A User Group meeting is led by a Chair.  A member of the ODIN Office will handle all meeting logistics, put together an agenda and record the minutes.  User Groups meet at least twice per year and online is preferred. The User Groups may meet face-to-face.  Each User Group library has one vote when a vote is needed.   When appropriate, the Chair of the User Group updates the OAC Chair with any issues pertaining to the interests of the User Group.

So realistically, the duties can be summed up as:

  • Show up to the regularly scheduled meetings.
  • Lead the meeting using the agenda prepared by a member of the ODIN Office with agenda items contributed by the group members.
  • In the rare instance where something needs to be elevated to the OAC, you may be asked to participate in the discussion.

That is it!  Easy and painless!!   Please consider throwing your hat into the nominations ring for any and all User Groups you currently attend.  If you don’t attend and want to get involved, please reach out to the ODIN Office and we will be happy to suggest the appropriate group(s) and get you signed up for the associated listserv(s).  We would love to have you join us!
