Innovative Interfaces, Inc. Polaris, a robust and scalable software solution with powerful staff tools and an intuitive approach for patrons has been chosen as the new Integrated Library System for ODIN public/K12/special libraries
As part of a 2018 procurement process, the Public/K12/Special RFP Evaluation Committee chose Polaris (Innovative Interfaces, Inc.) as the Integrated Library System to replace the Aleph® Integrated Library System that has been used since 2003. Sirsi also received positive feedback from those who participated in the demos and it was a close decision.
Some thoughts from the committee on the decision:
-- III’s cloud-hosted, subscription solution is provided on Amazon Web Services (AWS) & has data centers located in multiple locations so will be in compliance with any data privacy laws.
-- The Polaris Web Client - Leap, provides a completely web-based patron services and circulation interface for staff, allowing for greater mobility and expanded outreach services. Also, easy to train staff.
-- Great customer service and extensive documentation.
-- EContent integration is available through the Polaris ILS. Libraries using Polaris can catalog, display in PAC, manage access and circulation eContent from OverDrive & many other EContent providers.
-- There is a mobile app available but in addition there is a responsive mobile app for those that don’t wish to download apps.
-- Polaris has a Kid’s catalog.
-- Analytics/Reports appear to be easier to initiate and implement.
-- User friendly.
-- Syndetics Unbound will provide an attractive view of materials along with reviews. This has the ability to enhance other software or applications.
-- Even though technical services are handled within a client, those services are expected to be in LEAP within two years.
The next step is to secure a contract. It will also be important for both systems to interface smoothly in discovery and resource sharing. Our consortium continues to move forward and embrace the future.
